Pack Your Bags and Avay Ve Go
Howdy!! My name is Sean (Yes, I’m from Texas and really do say Howdy). At this point I’ve been married to my amazing wife Vicky for 5 years, and we both love to travel. When we got started on our journey together, we agreed to travel together all over the world as we were able to. We have a goal to see all 50 states in the United States, and numerous other countries. We went on a few trips before getting married including Mexico City, Acapulco, and Washington D.C.
Shortly after getting married, we added our awesome son, Daniel. This presented a new challenge. We were told and read that you shouldn’t travel with small children. Supposedly, it’s not worth it since they won’t remember the trips and make it too hard to travel. While it might be true that he won’t remember all the trips, we will. Is it harder to travel with small children? definitely! Is it worth it? absolutely!! Since then he’s been with us to about a dozen states, on day trips into Mexico and Canada, and longer trips to 5 other countries. He went on his first plane ride at 6 months old (a short one), and his first cross country trip at 8 months. We’ve had some successes and some learning experiences in all these trips.
Earlier this year we added our precious daughter, Elizabeth. She went with us to Hawaii on her first trip at almost 5 months. Adding a second small child certainly added to the complexity of the trip, but it was an amazing trip, and we will surely continue to travel with these great kids.
I love travel planning and research for trips. This led me to travel hacking. We’ve had a lot of questions from family and friends about how we can go on some of these trips. Some assume we must make a lot more money than we do, or just spend a ton on trips. As we have traveled more and gotten into travel hacking, we have been able to go on trips that would have been impossible otherwise. As part of this site, I will discuss how we arranged for the trips to show how many people could make it work with some planning.
We’ve also had some experiences that were easier or harder than we expected based on research ahead of time. Several times, we wished we knew a little more about a place before showing up with kids (i.e. stroller accessibility) that wasn’t really covered anywhere we found. This led us to starting our own site covering these travels and our experiences.
We had some discussions in the family about what to call this site. Years ago, I started saying Avay Ve Go whenever we would leave on a trip. I’m not sure why, but it stuck and has become a tradition in our family. When my son heard us, he wanted to help, and the first one he said was “Pack your bags and away we go”. After some more suggestions, it seemed the perfect fit.
